Voting Question: Which backpack should I use?
I have 2 backpacks that I could use on the first day of high school. One is the backpack that I used last year, which I don't love but it looks ok. It's one of those typical jansport backpacks, in a medium blue. It doesn't look so new.
The other backpack is a laptop backpack, which I bought for a laptop that is currently in the mail and it will hopefully come to my house in about a month.http://www.campmor.com/outdoor/gear/Product___92818
I have it in the gray/white color.
Should I use the laptop backpack for the first month, even though I don't have the laptop yet?
I would feel better using something new on the first day, but is it silly to use it even though I don't have my laptop yet.
Also, this laptop backpack happens to have a lot of straps on the back (You can't see it from the pic) so it looks a little strange.
Which should I use? Should I use my old backpack until I get my laptop?
Thanks!!!!

Resolved Question: Do you know a good online shop in Taiwan that delivers to a Taipei hotel?
I am travelling to in Taiwan in late August on a business trip. Of course there will be no or little spare time, hence I would like to do the shopping in advance and get the goods delivered to my hotel. I have done that with success severely times visiting the US and UK, mainly using Amazon, as they accept credit card from abroad shipping to another address than billing address.
I am mainly interested in outdoor gear, photography equipment and electronics.
And yes, if it is English it would be an advantage. Thanks for your input!
The shops may be translatable by Google, then the big question is whether they will accept my foreign credit card?

Voting Question: Is it true that outdoor gear retailers toss out stuff they cant sell?
I heard from someone that you can find anything from returned backpacking stoves that they couldnt sell to sleeping bags in designated dumpsters just for merchandise that is out of date or unsellable
can i call these places and as about buying stuff at a lower price if they cant sell it?

Voting Question: Possible safety hazard - grounding outdoor PA system on aluminum bleachers?
I was exercising around my local High School grounds today, while my local Rec and Parks dept. set up for their annual 4th of July celebration (yeah, I know it's only Jul 1st).
About 1.5 yrs ago, some lovely aluminum bleachers were added to a sloping hill that overlooks the football field and running track.
I got seriously spooked, however, when I noticed that those wonderful bleachers were being used as an electrical ground by the outdoor PA system and other gear.
I know very little about how electricity behaves - is this a possible safety hazard?
Edit:
I returned to watch the fireworks. It looks as if people were kept off the bleachers, but they always kept people away from that part of the school field during a display.

I'm looking for a store that you can order from online and that ship to Canada. I already know of Mountain Equipment. Thank you!

Resolved Question: Opening my own shop or buying a franchise?
I want to open my own outdoor/sports shop that sells hunting and fishing supplies, hiking and camping gear, etc. but there is a lot of headache with opening my own business, so I thought about buying a Bass Pro Shop, or Gander Mountain franchise.
The closest Bass Pro Shops are an hour and 42 minutes, and the other is 2 hours and 34 minutes. The closest Gander Mountain is 2 hours and 40 minutes away.
What do you think would be the best route to take? I am leaning more towards opening my own shop, that way I can personalize it more, and add on throughout time.

Resolved Question: Recommended officer route: army, navy, air force, coast guard, marines, does my ideal described position exist?
I've graduated with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, and now working as an IT Consultant. I do not want to be stuck behind a computer for 8 hours a day like I currently am. I need to be on my feet and love using my hands. I need some adventure. I have always been told I'm crazy when it comes to outdoor things like skiing and mountain biking. I'd like to find this adventure in my work as well.
My ideal position would be in testing, refining, improving, prototyping, anything of that nature which is similar to a product development engineer or production engineer. I like being in producer roles where I utilize people and resources to their fullest by bringing them together and conquering the task at hand. Areas like weapons, defense, armor, vehicles, or anything that is NOT along the lines of facilities or facility operations (i.e. I don't want to be involved with HVAC, building maintenance, or general infrastructure construction). If I could help analyze, design, or improve existing, developing, and/or future technology, it would be ideal. Maybe a good route would be using the gear myself and then applying for a contractor position down the road?
Pardon the long list, but any answering of the questions or pointing out how wrong I am would be helpful.
Army
1. Afraid the ideal position described above may not exist
2. Heard officers do tons of paperwork
Navy
1. Boat travels a lot, but do you actually get to see the places where you stop?
2. Constant deployments or being on a vessel could get old 2, 3, 8 years down the road
Air Force
1. Everything seems more computer oriented if you're not a pilot, does this mean 8 hours at a computer again every day?
2. Appears the least required PT
Coast Guard
1. Not really considering too much because I feel my ideal position wouldn't be here, enlighten me if I'm wrong please
Marines
1. Does my ideal position match anything here?
Anyone have any recommendations for which service based on what I have mentioned?
Any officer positions you can think of that would either be or get me to where I would like to be down the road?
It seems intelligence could have equally challenging objectives where I could lead and utilize resources, any words on that? I feel it may be a lot of sitting at a computer as well and I know it's not the right direction for what I described, but it sounded interesting.
Thanks everyone!
